Frequently Asked Questions

Find all the answers to your questions about laser tattoo removal at Manchester Laser NQ here.

How does laser tattoo removal work? Lasers are used to remove tattoos by targeting the ink pigments with high energy light. The laser breaks the ink particles down into smaller pieces which the immune system can then remove and dispose of these ink fragments.

How many sessions will i need to remove my tattoo? On average, it takes between 6 and 10 laser sessions to remove a tattoo. There are a lot of individual factors that contribute to how long it will take to completely remove a tattoo, if at all. During your consultation we will give you a skin assessment and can predict how many sessions it will take to remove your tattoo. Skin type, ink colour, ink density, location of the tattoo and scarring can affect removal.

How much does laser tattoo removal cost? Our prices start at £50 and are based on the size of the tattoo. You can find more detailed guidance on pricing on our pricing page.

How do I look after my skin after a laser session? • After the treatment you can expect some hotness, redness, bleeding, swelling, itching raised areas and blisters. • A cold compress/ice packs can be used to cool the area, but do not apply ice directly to skin as this could cause burns. • Blisters, crusts and scabs developing 8-72 hours after the treatment is a normal part of the healing process. DO NOT pick, peel, rub or scratch them! • Keep the area clean with warm soapy water, but do not soak it, and pat dry with a paper towel. • Showering is okay but avoid high pressure water on the area and do not have a bath/swim/hot tub until it is healed. • Avoid exposure to the sun for 2 months after the treatment, if it can’t be covered use a high SPF sun cream. • Use pure Aloe Vera gel to moisturise the area when it gets dry and itchy. •For at least 48 hours following treatment avoid exercising as excessive perspiration can affect the healing process. • Drink more water and avoid drinking alcohol/smoking to aid healing and to help the lymphatic system to remove your tattoo!

How long does laser tattoo removal take? Luckily, tattoo removal is a lot faster than getting tattooed! A small tattoo will take 5-15 minutes and larger pieces can take up to an hour. Generally, the consultation and set up take longer than the actual laser process.

Is Manchester Laser NQ accessible for wheelchair users? No, unfortunately our laser room is down a flight of stairs.

Does laser tattoo removal hurt? Yes, it hurts but its quick. People say it feels like an elastic band being snapped against the skin or like being slapped with hot spoon repeatedly.

How long do I have to wait between sessions? We would recommend waiting at least 5 weeks between laser tattoo removal sessions. The skin needs to be fully healed before another session can be done.

How should I prepare for my laser session? Make sure you are hydrated, have a good meal beforehand, wear loose clothing that wont rub the area after removal and don't put any creams or perfumes on the area.
